EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
PHYLLIS L. GOLD,
M.ED.
Phyllis. L. Gold,
Executive Director of Satori School, brings over twenty years of experience
in education to her leadership. Her interest in gifted education and mentorship
of the Satori program emanates both from her role as a professional educator
and that of a mother of two gifted children.
Her training in both Elementary Education (B.A.) and School Psychology (M.Ed.) helped develop her appreciation for the unique learning needs of gifted and inquisitive children:
"Gifted children have special needs. Satori's program nurtures the child, providing individualized, self-directed learning opportunities. At Satori School we have created a program that supports the multiple intelligences through which a child's developing mind interprets and comprehends his or her world."
In the community, Phyllis is a recognized advocate for gifted education:
"Gifted education - like a gifted child - is often misunderstood. At a time when federal and state education legislation is focused on proficiency levels, our most talented and inquisitive students are being left behind. These students deserve at least the same support and recognition as a unique learning group as students who are below standards. Indeed, we need to assert that excellence is an important objective for students in our community."
Gold administers a dynamic staff of specialists, many of whom are experienced Master's level teachers drawn to the richness of the Satori learning environment. The instructional team offers training for teachers and sponsors programs for parents in the Tucson community to promote excellence and draw funding to support staff and students at Satori
Phyllis is an Adjunct Instructor at Pima Community College where she teaches Early Childhood Education classes. Before joining Satori in 1989, she was Director of Undergraduate Advising for the Psychology Department at the University of Arizona. Her teaching experience includes special education for the blind. She is a member of the Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented, and holds an Arizona Certificate for Elementary Education.
