January 14, 2004

Dear Satori Staff and Families:

Thank you to Forrest Parris and Hannah Love and their families for donating books to the Satori library in honor of their birthdays.

Today, Wednesday, January 14, Dr. Sandra Bevacqua (Skylar’s mom) is meeting with Satori classes teaching a unit on nutrition. She stresses the interactions between our behavior and the foods we eat. Tonight she is teaching the Satori Family Forum at the Elementary Building from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The evening is open to all families (children should probably be six years or older or be able to maintain focus) with childcare available.

Please do not leave valuables in your car when coming into the building, even if just for a few minutes. Make sure your car is locked!

We are beginning the auction process. We encourage you to join the 2004 Auction Committee. The Murphys (Jim & Jackie), Yvonne Schultz, and Mary Vuke are heading up the auction and are planning a fun-filled night of “Mardi Gras.” Our next auction meeting is tomorrow (Thursday, January 15) in Phyllis’ office. Please join us.

We still have a few raffle tickets for a 2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible provided by the Tucson Conquistadores. This is in conjunction with the Tucson Open Golf Tournament. Tickets sell for $10 and The Conquistadores are giving us 100% of the tickets that we sell. Please help out Satori and buy a chance to win a car. We have some tickets for sale in the office.

We extend a huge thank you to Jesse Ramos, Miguel Quiroz
and Tommy Snyder for all the work done in the back playground at the Central building. We are getting close to completion and are looking forward to having a kick-off party on Saturday, January 31 to open up the back playground. Jan Horton (Jo Honea’s mom), with the help of the Satori children, is rolling out clay to help make tiles that we are placing outside the back window. Tiles will be for sale (8 x 8 tiles for $50 each and 4x 8 for $30 each.) Families may purchase a tile and either decorate it with their name on it or have Satori place the requested inscriptions.

Friday, January 16 is our Civil Rights Celebration. Children from the elementary school will march to the Central building. We are closed on Monday, January 19 in honor of Civil Rights Day. There is no daycare available.

Joan Hurkett is conducting hearing screenings for children in the Central building on Friday, January 30 and for children in the Elementary building on Friday, February 6.

Back by popular demand, Spa Day is on Sunday afternoon, February 15.

We are tallying volunteer hours from first semester. Please fill in your hours this week if you have not done so. (Books in each office.)
