Dear Satori Staff and Families:
The Parent and Educator Workshop with Nathan Levy was enjoyable and successful. He provided tips for parents and educators and wonderful materials.
At the Young Authors’ Conference on October 3, children in K-5 will be publishing and illustrating their own books. We need parent volunteers on that Friday to assist with the conference by helping with word processing children’s books, helping children get to their sessions, etc.
Friday, October 17 is a teacher planning day, and parent-teacher conferences are on Monday, October 20. There will be no school for the 2’s through the PreK classes on the 17th and the 20th. Daycare will be available. Kindergarten through 5th grade will be dismissed at 12:45 both days. Extended Care will be available. Friday October 17 is DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) Day for everyone at Satori. Teachers and students will be reading on their own and to each other. Preschool children attending daycare on Friday will be able to participate in DEAR time with the Extended Care staff.
Extended Care programs are going well. Children in the Central building are continuing with their unit on the senses. Children in the Elementary building have been enjoying many games; we will continue to add new ones.
Children in grades K-5 are responsible for bringing their own morning snack. Children who do not bring snack from home and are hungry are given Satori snack during their class time. This often happens on hot lunch days because children do not bring their lunch boxes with them. We are billing $1.50 for morning snacks we provide to children in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Please honor the handicapped parking spaces. It is illegal to park there without a handicapped parking sticker. Also, a Satori parent received a parking “warning” from a Tucson Police Officer for parking too near the corner of 1st Avenue and Pastime. He cited the Arizona Revised Statute: no parking less than 15 feet from an intersection (including Mesquite Place) or within 30 feet of a stop sign or other traffic control sign.
We have a box in the office for donations to Bookman’s. Please drop off books or CDs that we can exchange for credit. These credit slips then go to our teachers to use for their classrooms. Diana Moule, Gabriel’s mom, has volunteered to take the donations to Bookman’s.
